The child from birth to four months of age

The best learning activities for children at this level focus on development of the cognitive abilities such as face recognition and security. Learning games such as “Hats Off” encourage toddlers to develop face recognition and attachment to their parents. Physically, the caregiver can start on stretching and reaching out activities. During this tender age, the child is just starting the development of cognitive, physical, social and emotional abilities. Therefore, they require mental and physical activities that will promote fast growth of the body and the brain.

Developmentally Appropriate Practice Book

The developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) is a teaching model that is based on the research into the development of young children and effective early education teaching methods. D.A.P focuses on teaching children according to their stages of cognitive development as individuals and as part of a group. The Developmentally Appropriate Practice book contains principles on child development that outline the major areas to be focused upon when teaching children. These guidelines are important in guiding the caregivers, teachers and other education stakeholders in developing education programs for young children. For a caregiver or a teacher, integrating the features of DAP such as giving individual attention to each student, realizing cultural values and child learning skills will improve the efficiency of child development.
