Parkers Philosophical Methodology of learning Profile

Dr. Leonard W. Parker has the experience and expertise in teaching college students since 1970. He came up with a philosophical methodology of learning profile to show how students relate to teacher’s teaching styles. It equips teachers with knowledge on whether the students are learning and grasping what he or she is teaching. It makes teachers aware of areas such as research, classroom-tested applications and up-to-date theories that will help them in future, as they teach. The foundations of learning can be based on philosophy, psychology, education and life. Dr. Parker concentrates on the philosophical methodology of learning.

Parker’s Philosophical Methodology of learning profile is based on five pillars, which are traditionalism, progressivism, behaviorism, humanism and socialism. Traditional learning philosophy takes into consideration other branches of philosophy. It looks at how individuals relate with what has happened in the past, how what is happening around them affects the way they think and view certain situations and how religion has an impact in their lives. Progressivism shows how a learner is making headway in class through a series of tests, and their progress is evaluated. Behaviorism shows how a student’s behavior is determined by the environment that they are in at a certain time. Humanism focuses on the student’s needs and interests emphasizing on the fact that people learn better from experience. Socialism aspires to advance, modify, and reform society’s way of viewing education (Parker & Parker, 2007).

A learning process that is rigid and sticks to theories of traditionalism is met with friction. This is because learners find it hard to correlate with things they do not experience on a daily basis. Teachers should incorporate all theories so that they motivate students to learn. Ideological content that has its basis in the past is hard to teach, as students do not see its relevance. There should be room for instructions to be edited so that it incorporates all types of learners. As much as some things, do not change student learning centers should not concentrate subjects such as oppression, liberation and consciousness rising are valid subjects.

The philosophy thus summarizes the whole learning process by considering what attitude a student has will determine how much he or she learns. The attitude they have in a subject will settle on the ability for them to excel in academics. A teacher who understands this will be able to tell if his or her teaching methods are working or not. The philosophy aims to help teachers question early in advance whether their teaching techniques are effective. The calculation form, has concentrated on one’s interpersonal skills, modalities, competencies, leadership characteristics and philosophy.
